We meet in The Lounge of the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre from 14.00 to 15.45
on the second and fourth Friday each month. We are fortunate to have a native French speaker who is able to join us for most of our meetings.
Recent topics have included: Can big screen cinema continue to exist? , identifying a French object in 20 Questions, the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Provence and Monaco, climate change, frustrations with call centres, coincidences, Trouvez les mots (new vocabulary from a drawing), International Womens' Day, Antoine Lavoisier, the Raft of the Medusa, poisson d'avril, the celebration of VE Day 80 and in remembrance of lives lost at Verdun -" Dans un trou à Verdun" by the war poet Henri Lallier, world marathons, your favourite sporting event, a crossword puzzle, Journée internationale de l'amitié , Leeds Castle and a summer social. Our Christmas lunch is pencilled in for 12 December.
.At each meeting we review the headlines from the web version of France-Soir.
The aim is to encourage you to improve your grasp of the
French language through conversation, to enable you to give very short
presentations on topics that interest you and of course to understand what is
being said. And if you travel abroad, to use your French, not only in France but
in former French governed countries such as Algeria, Morocco, Cambodia, Laos
and Vietnam; and Quebec and Nova Scotia in Canada.
There may be opportunities to see French films showing
either in the Barn Hall or Pottery Room, Amersham.
Ideally members should have previously studied French. You will benefit from 1 – 2 hours of study in your own time each month on selected topics but don’t let that deter you.
Although the group is full, this should not stop you coming to our friendly group for a taster session. Please contact Phil Spalton for a chat.
