The Croquet group meets on my 12.5 m by 10 m lawn (40% of standard dimensions) every Monday. The small size is ideal for beginners who are always welcome. We play both forms of the game - Golf croquet and Association croquet. All equipment is provided including Primary and Secondary balls, so two games can be played at the same time.

I encourage members to join local clubs in Watford or High Wycombe to graduate to full sized lawns.

In the early days the the lawn sloped 900 mm from the high corner to the low corner but during the 2004 to 2005 winter the lawn was levelled to within 20 mm of the mean level by lifting strips of turf, moving the subsoil from high to lows trips and replacing the turf, at the new elevation, within a week to avoid killing the grass. Further improvements continue each winter by adding up to 3 mm of soil to the low areas at a time to minimise grass damage. High areas are reduced by taking out 20 mm diameter cores to a depth of 60 mm, but this is a more tedious process.
For more details see http://www.oxfordcroquet.com/care/barry/index.asp which shows photos of the original lawn with early Chiltern U3A players.

All equipment and tuition are provided, but please bring your own refreshments.
