We meet in The Lounge of the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre from 14.00 to 15.45
on the second and fourth
Friday each month. I am delighted to write that, once again, we have a native French speaker to support the group.
Recent topics have included: identifying an object in 20 Questions, Trouvez les mots (new vocabulary from a drawing), Antoine Lavoisier, the Raft of the Medusa, your favourite sporting event, a crossword puzzle, Journée internationale de l'amitié , Leeds Castle, a Christmas social (Darmon Deli), our Christmas expectations, Brigitte Bardot (1934 - 2025), your favourite painting, the falling birth rate in France, famous men, Lille - its history, tourist sites and a successful visit in May, our thoughts on space travel, continuous assessment or examinations, the EU/French requirement for cars to be able to be fitted with breathalysers and how to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.
.At each meeting we review the headlines from the web version of France-Soir.
The aim is to encourage you to improve your grasp of the
French language through conversation, to enable you to give very short
presentations on topics that interest you and of course to understand what is
being said. And if you travel abroad, to use your French, not only in France but
in former French governed countries such as Algeria, Morocco, Cambodia, Laos
and Vietnam; and Quebec and Nova Scotia in Canada.
There may be opportunities to see French films : 30 November, l’Ascenseur pour l’Echafaud
in the Pottery Room, Amersham.
Ideally members should have previously studied French. You will benefit from 1 – 2 hours of study in your own time each month on selected topics but don’t let that deter you.
Although the group is full, this should not stop you coming to our friendly group for a taster session. Please contact Phil Spalton for a chat.
