The Strollers Group was formed to cater for those who like to walk but not at the pace or over the distances covered by the other Walking Groups. We average around 3 miles over terrain that is not too taxing with as few stiles as possible. Waterproof clothing and strong footwear are essential. The safety guidelines given for the Walking Group apply equally to Strollers.

Volunteers to lead walks are always needed and are most welcome, so if you have a favourite you would like to share with us, please contact the Convenor. The deadline for the next Newsletter will be the middle of October.

If you wish to take part in any of the walks, please contact the leader of each walk and let them know if you wish to stay for lunch.

Tuesday, 5 August:

“Gadding about in Hertfordshire”, approx. 3.5 miles. Leaders: Beryl and Betty.
The walk starts from Little Gaddesdon, which is 4.5 miles north of Berkhamsted. Please park well away from the road in the Car Park opposite The Bridgewater Arms, which lies on the unclassified road between Little Gaddesdon and Ringshall. Take the Ashridge Road out of Berkhamsted and turn right on the Ringshall Road. OS Map 181, GR SP992136.  Start Time 10.30.

Wednesday, 13 August:

“To School to Broaden your Horizons”, 3 miles. Leaders: Maureen and Sheila. email:
Meet at The George Inn, Great Missenden where you can park if staying for lunch. If not, please use the Link Road Public Car Park (charges apply). Incline at start gives way to gentle walking with only one stile. OS Explorer Map 181, GR SP895015. Start time from pub 10.30  but must order food first.

Friday, 29 August:

“Croxley Green, Common Moor and the Canal”,  3.25 miles. Leader: Janice. email:
Discover a local area you may never have visited! Easy walking through woods, along an old railway line and across a nature reserve. No Stiles. Some gravelly paths, one gentle hill and one brief (20 yards) steepish slope, which we can help each other up! Please meet at the C&H (formerly Coach and Horses!) pub right on the Green at Croxley Green (not the Artichoke, which is nearby). Croxley Green is on a turning off the A412 Rickmansworth-Watford road (turn at the large church), OS Map 172 GR TQ069957. Please order lunch at the pub before setting off. Start Time: 10.15.

Wednesday, 3 September:

“Sarratt and the Chess Valley”, Approx. 4 miles. Leader: Sydney.
Meet in the car park of The Boot, overlooking Sarratt Green, for a 10.30 start. This lovely walk takes you past the ancient parish church and down the valley to meet and cross the River Chess. Following a short traverse of the opposite hillside, you recross the river and make your way back to The Boot for lunch. Although there are seven stiles of varying height along the route and two moderately steep hills to climb, the views should prove rewarding. Parking is either in The Boot’s own car park or alongside the Green. Please let Sydney know if you will be staying to lunch.

Tuesday, 16 September:

“A Stroll along the Towpath at Rickmansworth”, Under 3 miles. Leader: Christine, email:
Along the Grand Union Canal (spot my daughter’s narrow boat Wild Lady) and back on the Ebury Way. Lunch afterwards at The White Bear, Rickmansworth. Start time 11.00. Meet and park in Aquadrome Car Park (free!) in Frogmore Lane, off the Harefield Road first turning past Tesco. Please let Christine know if you will be staying for lunch.

We will drive back to Aldbury afterwards for lunch at The Valiant Trooper (signposted) at the far end of the village.
