Current Programme

6 August; 3 September; 1 October; 5 November

At our recent meetings we have been exploring various aspects of the Industrial Revolution. As well as considering the overall changes – good and bad - which resulted from the revolution, we have looked in more detail at the coal, iron and steel industries, the advent of steam power and the textile industry. We also heard about the first industrial novel: “The Life and Times of Michael Armstrong, the Factory boy” by Frances Trollope. As usual, several members provided well-illustrated and interesting talks on the topics. When we have concluded our work on this subject we hope to consider “The Wars of the Roses” and “Tsarist Russia”. We also plan to have a session entitled “A Historical Miscellany”.
