We also meet on the occasional fifth Tuesdays for practical training sessions.
We've had the usual wide range of topics over the last three months. We managed to persuade Claire Paterson (no relation!), Deputy Registrar at High Wycombe Register Office, to talk about the history of registration and her current duties. She and a colleague officiated at the wedding of Prince Charles and Claire brought copies of some of the documentation from that event and mementos presented to her. May, June and July concentrated on War. In May we explored the background to the names on the War Memorial at Winchmore Hill, then in June we had a discussion about evacuation from London and members experiences. Vic Faulkner and Chalmers Cursley had organised a successful coach tour to WW1 battlefields in May and the July meeting hosted an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and what they found about their ancestors.
This is most of the group that went on the recent U3A Family History tour to the World War 1 Battlefields and Memorials. The party included members of both Chiltern Family History Groups as well as Chess Valley U3A Family History Group and general members of both U3A's. To see a lot more pictures, click here.
