What is the University of the Third Age?

"A learning co-operative for people of retirement age, which enables members to share a variety of educational, creative, social and leisure activities."

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a dynamic, outward looking organisation which has a positive and creative approach to retirement.  Activities, which usually take place in the day-time, are organised mainly in small groups that meet regularly.  Members share their knowledge and experience and develop their own capabilities by learning from each other.  No qualifications are required, and none are given.  All you need is interest and enthusiasm. Between them the U3As offer over 300 subjects in such diverse fields as art, foreign languages, music, history, sciences, literature, poetry, theatre, philosophy, bird-watching and computing.

Chiltern U3A

Chiltern U3A was formed in October 1999 and currently has almost 1000 members and over 60 subject groups.  It has received support from Chiltern District Council and the National Lottery.

Each subject group meets once or twice a month and programmes are decided by the members of the group.  General meetings, with an invited speaker, are held on the first Thursday and third Wednesday of the month in the Drake Hall in the Community Centre in Amersham.

A quarterly Newsletter is distributed to all members giving full details of each of the groups activities as well as reviews of past events and other items of interest.

The annual membership fee of £20 entitles members to attend the subject groups of their choice, as well as the monthly general meetings.
